2005

• Held the third annual conference in Tampa with McKay Scholarship Schools, DOE officials, legislators and gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist  Worked with the house to draft McKay legislation

• Spoke at House and Senate committee meetings in support of legislation which would make appropriate changes in the McKay statute

• Participated in a press conference with the Institute of Justice on January 24 concerning the Amicus briefs which had been filed with the Florida Supreme Court that discussed the effects that a negative finding for the Opportunity Scholarship Program would have on other programs such as the McKay Scholarship Program         

• Helped to organize and participate in the march to the Supreme Court in June when the OSP case was being heard

2004

• Held a conference in Tampa with McKay Scholarship Schools, DOE officials and legislators participating

• Worked with legislators to draft McKay legislation        

• Met with Governor Bush to discuss the McKay Scholarship Program

• Presented information in Senate and House committees concerning need for legislation to allow private schools to keep their autonomy 

• Sponsored a seminar for McKay Scholarship Schools (MSS) through Dyslexia Research Institute

• Developed an e-mail list of MSS

• Contacted legislators to discuss the McKay Scholarship program

Since being established as a Florida Nonprofit Corporation, the Coalition has:

• Issued e-mail FYI bulletins concerning McKay Scholarship procedures and what school districts may may not ask a participating school

• Led an email ALERT to the Governor asking for more cooperation from DOE

• Sent Talking Points and Legislative Strategies to McKay Scholarship Schools

• Contacted legislators to discuss proposed amendments

• Represented McKay Scholarship Schools at the Stakeholder's Meeting at the DOE in February 2003

• Elected Board of Directors

• Represented the Coalition on the McKay Senate Task Force
