TALKING POINTS
This set of talking points has been developed by The Coalition to assist
parents and schools as they speak to media, legislators, or other concerned
parties interested in the McKay Scholarship Program. It gives a brief
background history and explanation of the program.
The Talking Points also ask our legislators to carefully consider any
legislation brought to the concerning the McKay Scholarship Program and
insure that it supports the rights of parents with children with
disabilities to be able to have diverse public and private options for their
children without placing unnecessary, bureaucratic requirements on the
private schools' ability to provide these options.

The Coalition's Position on Accountability
The Coalition of McKay Scholarship Schools has prepared the following
position paper concerning its stand on the different issues which have been
brought up in new legislation. This information will assist you in answering
many of the questions posed by legislators and others who are concerned that
private schools are operating in an accountable way to serve the students
and to deal with fiscal issues of accountability.
Private schools participating in the McKay Scholarship Program are very
aware that accountability measures must be in place to protect the children
in the program and to ensure that the schools are fiscally accountable.
However, the McKay Scholarship Program is a choice program. Therefore, it is
important that the differences within the private school sector which allow
parents to have a variety of choices are maintained.
Private schools are NOT public schools and operate on different principals
and different standards. This position paper details our stand on the issues
that have arisen that would take the autonomy away from private schools and
undermine, if not destroy, this program.
