The Coalition's mission is to assimilate and disseminate information about the McKay Scholarship program from sources such as the Department of Education (DOE), the legislature, schools, parents, and the community. The Coalition also advocated for McKay Scholarship schools and students with disabilities to ensure viability of this program.

Even before the Coalition was officially incorporated, the founding group was busy carrying out our mission:

• Sponsored a seminar for McKay Scholarship Schools (MSS) through Dyslexia Research Institute

• Developed an e-mail list of MSS

• Contacted legislators to discuss the McKay Scholarship program

Since being established as a Florida Nonprofit Corporation, the Coalition has:

• Issued e-mail FYI bulletins concerning McKay Scholarship procedures and what school
  districts may may not ask a participating school

• Led an email ALERT to the Governor asking for more cooperation from DOE

• Sent Talking Points and Legislative Strategies to McKay Scholarship Schools

• Contacted legislators to discuss proposed amendments

• Represented McKay Scholarship Schools at the Stakeholder's Meeting at the DOE in
  February 2003

• Elected Board of Directors

• Represented the Coalition on the McKay Senate Task Force
